The 2022 energy crisis has led many people and companies to question their own energy consumption; this was also the case for the employees and management of viadee Unternehmensberatung. From the desire to deal more responsibly with our resources and make a contribution to the environment and society, the idea was born to convert the offices in Münster and Cologne completely to a smart heating control.
After extensive research, the choice of system fell on Homematic IP: 220 Homematic IP radiator thermostats were purchased and installed in the offices of the two locations in the fall of 2022. The thermostats are each connected and controlled via a CCU3 smart home control panel. To simplify the control of this large amount of thermostats, the software developers at viadee Unternehmensberatung programmed a custom automation application.
The highlight: The thermostat control is directly connected to viadee's own room booking tool Buuky and Microsoft Outlook calendar. This way, rooms are only actively heated when they are in use. At other times, the thermostats automatically regulate the temperature down.
The result of these measures has significantly exceeded viadee's expectations. From October 2022 to February 2023, they were able to reduce their own heating energy consumption by more than 50% compared to the previous year! This means that the project has already almost paid for itself economically within a few months and - even more importantly - made a great contribution to climate protection. A remarkable project that shows how much even a small change in thinking can achieve.
